Pricing
How much does a website cost for a small business in the UK?
Updated June 2026 · 4 min read
It's the first question almost every small business owner asks — and the honest answer is "it depends". But that's not very helpful, so let's break down what a small business website really costs in the UK in 2026, and what makes the price go up or down.
Typical UK website price ranges
- Simple one-page / portfolio site — £150–£300. Perfect for sole traders, freelancers and personal brands who need a sharp online presence.
- Small business website — £250–£800. A handful of pages, contact forms, online booking and local SEO. Most local businesses sit here.
- Custom builds & web portals — £1,000+. Bespoke features, integrations, booking systems or client portals quoted on scope.
- DIY builders (Wix, Squarespace) — £10–£30/month, plus your own time to design, write and maintain it.
At 2020 Developers, our personal sites start at £150 and small business websites run from £250–£350 depending on the SEO work involved.
What actually affects the price?
- Number of pages and content. More pages, more copywriting, more cost.
- Design complexity. A template tweak is cheaper than a fully bespoke design.
- Features. Online booking, payments, logins or custom tools add development time.
- SEO & Google setup. Getting found on Google (and a Google Business Profile) is worth investing in.
- Ongoing care. Hosting, updates and support are often a small monthly add-on.
Cheap vs good value
The cheapest option is rarely the best value. A slow, hard-to-find website costs you customers every month. A well-built, fast, search-friendly site pays for itself by bringing in enquiries — which is the whole point.
